Why Drink Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to add nutrients to your daily eating regimen. With a basic recipe you can add any number of additional components to suit your tastes. Many people use smoothies for weight loss or as a pre or post workout drink. It is a great way to consume protein for muscle repair after a workout. The right combination can also replenish electrolytes and probiotics and that is the basis of the recipe I am including here. Smoothies are great as an mid day snack and some people even use them as a breakfast on the run. My personal preference is to use them as a post workout drink or a mid day snack. But whatever your druthers, a basic smoothie can be a great component of a healthy eating plan.

Non Dairy Smoothie Recipe

Place all of the following in a blender:

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 Scoop Sun Warrior Raw Protein Blend. I use Vanilla but it is available in both Vanilla and Chocolate. Sun Warrior uses no whey. It is a plant-based protein powder with a complete amino acid profile. It is my protein powder of choice.
  • Add 1 cup or more of Zico Coconut Water depending on desired consistency. Zico is my choice because it contains 5 electrolytes: potassium, magnesium, sodium, calcium and phosphorous.
  • 2 scoops of Complete Greens. Complete Greens is a great source of enzymes, nutrients, probiotics and phytonutrients, many of which are lacking in our daily diet.
  • Blend all these ingredients together and enjoy.

If you prefer whey as the basis for your protein powder here are 2 options you may want to check out depending on your priority.
TLS Nutrition Shake is a combination of 18g of both whey and pea protein. It also has 10g of fiber if weight loss is your goal.

If you are transitioning to a healthier lifestyle or if you are looking for ways to maximize your intake of healthy nutrients experiment with smoothies. The possibilities are endless!
