Optimum Nutrition | We Are What We Eat
What we choose to eat on a daily basis eventually becomes the core of our overall health. I believe that.
For many years people chose their food based on TV commercials. Americans let marketers drive our buying habits and we became a Fast Food Nation living on processed foods and bio genetically-engineered products. The result has led us to a national problem, an obesity epidemic with related health problems straining our health care system.
Can we do anything about it? I think we can, one person at a time. By taking ownership of our own body’s food choices, we can make a difference that I believe will have a ripple effect across the country.
If “We are what we eat” then is Dr. Sanjay Gupta right when he stated back in 2007?
“If we are what we eat, Americans are corn and soy.”
Is that what we want?
I can only speak for myself but I choose not to be corn or soy. I choose to be healthy without going to extremes AND without depriving myself of an occasional treat.
It’s time that we as consumers become aware that food choices do matter. And that we should be knowledgeable when we do our weekly grocery shopping. It’s up to us to decide what we should purchase, and not let marketers determine what we eat simply because a box looks good or the TV commercial was appealing. As humans who eat daily we also need to know a bit about nutrition, specifically what types of food are right for our own body. If that isn’t our responsibility then whose is it?
A little education goes a long way
A little education about nutrition goes a long way toward empowerment. As an educator and a coach I believe that knowledge is power and my goal is to provide some basic information, tips and recipes that can help empower any consumer wanting to make an informed decision when it comes to food and nutrition and their own body’s needs.
The food choices we make CAN help us lose weight, reduce inflammation, blood pressure, cholesterol and stabilize blood glucose levels edmedicom.com. And it doesn’t have to be complicated. This is particularly critical as we age. As a Baby Boomer who has a lot of items on my Bucket List, I speak from experience and am willing to share that experience here. I believe life should be lived to the fullest and I know that it is possible to feel younger as you age.
